Diangelo Cicilia

Diangelo Cicilia grew up in the Island of Curaçao and went to study guitar at the Rotterdam Conservatory with among others Martin Kaaij. After completing these studies with high distinction, he continued to study at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Enno Voorhorts, where he graduated Cum Laude, with special distinction for the promotion of contemporary Music.

After these periods he continued his studies with Eliot Fisk, at the New England Conservatory in Boston. During this study year he won the prestigious Wild Card competition with the ensemble “Sauvage”.

In addition to his guitar studies he also studied orchestration (with Klaas de Vries At the Rotterdam conservatory), percussion and trumpet (with respectively Wim Vos and Ad van Zon at the Royal conservatory of the Hague).

He has been awarded scholarships like among others: “Special Young Talent Award” from the Prince Bernhard Foundation, “The Hoge School Beurs” from the Royal Conservatory and a scholarship from the Fonds voor de Podium Kunsten. An important highlight in his career has been his performance of the official premiere of the new National Anthem of the Netherlands Antilles with his own arrangement for guitar. He has performed the premieres of many contemporary pieces and many composers from different parts of the world have written and dedicated their pieces to him.

By now he has performed regularly on television and radio in Holland, South America, America, the Caribbean and Japan. He has performed as a soloist, and given workshop in different parts of the world.

He is currently living in Japan.
